October twilight
Monsters rule the witching hour
Terrors in the dark
Hear their cries of “Trick or Treat!”
On this festive Halloween!
My response to the first of Colleen Chesebro‘s Weekly Poetry Challenges for November: Fright & Night. The twist for this month is to only use synonyms for the prompt words! For this challenge, I chose to write a Halloween-themed tanka. I hope you enjoy the poem! Thanks for the prompt, Colleen!

Welcome to April! I hope you survived the pranks of April Fools’ Day, or maybe you pulled some off yourself! Either way, in the spirit of this humorous month, why not have some more fun with a few new “What If?” Writing Prompts? This week’s batch features prompts in the theme of humor. See what fun stories you can create from these ideas! Enjoy!
What if… every time you thought about a certain food, it magically appeared before you?
What if… you were hypnotized to sing every time someone said a specific word?
What if… for one day, you could understand animals, but not people?
What if… you woke up one day to find yourself in a cartoon?
What if… you were cursed to speak only in the form of bad jokes?
Good luck spinning more silly tales!
If you have any “What If?” writing prompt suggestions (for any theme), please feel free to share them in the comments below. Ideas I like may be featured in future “What If?” posts, with full credit and a link to your blog (if you have one)! Also, if you’ve written a piece based on an idea you’ve found here, be sure to link back to the respective “What If?” post. I would love to see what you’ve done with the prompt! Thank you!

It’s the scariest night of the year.
Monsters swarm in from far and from near.
Try to hide your surprise
If you look in their eyes,
For they’re drawn to the smell of your fear.
Yet the children who wander the streets
On their annual quest for free sweets
Don’t seem fazed in the least
By the sight of a beast,
Just so long as it’s handing out treats!
Glowing pumpkins with faces so mean
Set a haunting and bone-chilling scene.
Bid farewell to the light
And give in to the night!
Have a frightfully fun Halloween!

Here’s another round of “What If?” Writing Prompts for you to enjoy! To keep things lighthearted, this week’s batch is set to the theme of humor. What silly tales can you spin from these ideas? Enjoy!
What if… someone charmed/cursed you to speak only in puns?
What if… you noticed all the animals around you had “shifty eyes”?
What if… a monster showed up at your door… to ask you for something mundane?
What if… every time you spoke, candy fell from your lips?
What if… everyone had a theme song that played whenever they entered a room?
Have fun writing more humorous stories!

What if… you were walking outside when it suddenly started raining chocolate?

What if… every answer you gave had to rhyme with the question?
What if… you knew someone was going to prank you… and you had to figure out a way to make it backfire on them?
What if… every day were April Fools’ Day?
Good luck writing some more humorous tales!
