Give Me Freedom

Give me light,
And I will have sight.
I will see the world
And try to learn its ways.

Give me passion,
And I will have spirit.
I will grow and change
As I find my own path.

Give me wisdom,
And I will have mind.
I will form my own ideas
And create my own life.

Give me courage,
And I will have heart.
I will stand for my beliefs
And fight for my true rights.

But above all,
Give me freedom
To see,
To feel,
To think,
To speak,
And I will have a voice.
And I will at last exist.

Freedom is a basic human right, not a privilege. My thoughts and prayers are with all the people affected by the senseless tragedies in France. May our free voices never be silenced. #JeSuisCharlie

Rainbow

Reds, blues and greens
Arched across the sky
Illuminate the heavens in
Numerous brilliant hues.
Beauty in a spectrum
Of seven vivid colors is a
Wonder of nature’s perfection.

A Year Begun

How has an entire year
Already gone by since
People were last here to
Party ’til midnight and beyond?
Yesterdays vanish like a dream.

Now the countdown begins.
Everyone sounds off the seconds,
Waiting for midnight… Three… two… one…

You and I cheer with everyone as fireworks
Explode and shower the sky in vivid colors.
After tonight, I’m filled with excitement,
Ready to start an amazing new year!

Happy New Year, dear readers! May you all have a wonderful and prosperous 2015 full of love, happiness and creative inspiration! Bless you all!

Holiday Cheer

My favorite time of year has arrived!
Everyone in the family will be here,
Ready to celebrate the holidays and
Rejoice together over a wonderful
Year gone by and a new one to come.

Chestnuts roast over an open flame,
Holly hangs along the walls, and
Reindeer pull a sleigh across the lawn.
I won’t sleep tonight, knowing
Santa Claus will place gifts under the
Tree decorated with brightly colored lights.
Mistletoe is hung in the hallway as I hear
Angelic voices caroling outside.
Sing of all this blessed holiday cheer!

Hope you’re all having a wonderful holiday season! A belated Merry Christmas to all, and a Happy New Year!

Winter Blossom

I saw her on that cold December night,
A touch of color on the virgin snow.
The winter rose had just begun to grow,
And suddenly I knew true love’s first sight.

Her scarlet petals shamed the ivory white
Of snowflakes dancing in the moonlit glow.
She’d sing of summer days she longed to know,
And talk with me until the morning light.

Yet she had bloomed too soon to have it said
That she would live to feel the summer’s bliss
Before the frost could spirit her above.

Come spring, I found my winter rose lay dead.
In trembling hands, I blessed her with a kiss,
And shed a farewell tear for my lost love.
