(What If? Exercise: Read the description here.)
Our favorite time of year is around the corner again!
A time when we can relax and have fun.
You know we’ll be hitting the beach soon.
Ice cream every day is a must.
School’s out for the season too!
Vacation time is finally here!
Sunny skies every day?
Best season ever!
Let’s enjoy!
Summer!
This piece is based on What If? Exercise 93: “Ten to One”. The exercise is to write a 55-word story in which the first sentence has ten words, the second has nine, etc., until the last sentence has only one word. The objective is to show that precision and thrift in writing can produce surprisingly powerful results. I hope you enjoy what I’ve written. Thanks for reading!

Every time you tease
I can’t help but laugh out loud
To please your humor
Please forgive my tricks
But I just could not resist
Teasing you that way
Tell me if you please
Why I can’t stop smiling now
At the way you tease
My responses to Ronovan Writes‘ Weekly Haiku Challenge #151: Please & Tease. For once, I’m actually posting in the same week! Hope you enjoy the haikus! Thanks for the prompt, Ronovan!

Memories, old and new, of
Every life lost among the
Many brave souls who fight for an
Overwhelming love for their country
Remain in our hearts with our
Infinite gratitude for their service.
America remains free thanks to the
Lives of those who defend it!
Don’t forget the sacrifice of those who
Always gave everything for our nation.
Your lives will always be remembered!
Blessings to all you readers who have lost a loved one in military service. Have a peaceful Memorial Day weekend!

All that others see
Contradicts the truest love
Hidden in my heart
Plain dark irises
Conceal the sweet perfection
Only I can see
Wonder to behold
All the beauty I have found
In your lovely eyes
My responses to Ronovan Writes‘ Weekly Haiku Challenge #146: Behold & Eye. I know I’m late again, but I just couldn’t resist this theme either! Thanks for the prompt, Ronovan!

I don’t know how you managed
To put up with me so long,
To endure my moody outbursts
As you taught me right from wrong.
I don’t know how you always
Knew exactly what to say
To help me through my problems
‘Til we made them go away.
I don’t know how you managed
To support me all those years,
To encourage all my dreams
And protect me from my fears.
But I’m thankful that you did it,
For without you there for me,
I could never be the person
That I always hoped to be.
So I thank you for your patience
To stick with me to the end,
And I thank you for your wisdom
As a mentor and a friend.
I thank you for your kindness,
A true blessing from above.
But most of all, I thank you
For your never-ending love.
To be an awesome parent
Is the most challenging task,
Yet you’re still the greatest mother
For whom anyone could ask.
I don’t know how you do it,
But I’m really glad you do.
Happy Mother’s Day to you, Mom!
Love, your daughter who loves you!
Happy Mother’s Day to my awesome mom! Thank you for all the love and support you’ve given me my whole life! I love you!

To love someone intensely is to feel
Complete beside the person you adore.
When life gives you a love so pure and real,
You live each day to feel it more and more.
To love someone with all your heart and soul
Is finding one with whom to share your life,
So when your trials start to take their toll,
You’ll find peace with your husband or your wife.
To love someone forever is to know
The joy of having someone on your side.
No matter what you do or where you go,
You’ll always be together for the ride.
All that I’ve learned of love, you two taught me.
I love you! Happy Anniversary!
