Tsunami

Quakes
Beneath
The ocean
Break the water
Into one
Massive
Wave

Wave
Rising
From the sea,
Wash everything
Away from
The cold
Earth

White Wonderland

Crystal rain falling
Sprinkled all across the land
Winter has arrived

Icy wind blowing
Snowflakes dancing on the breeze
Shine in the moonlight

Magic in the air
Virgin snow brightens the world
A white wonderland

Butterfly Garden

Flutter
Beautiful wings
Gently kiss the flowers
Paint the world in vivid colors
Dawn breaks
Touch the dewdrops on the petals
Brighten up the garden
Golden sunrise
Rainbow

Response to Jane Dougherty’s Poetry Challenge #8: write a butterfly cinquain, a nine-line poem with a 2-4-6-8-2-8-6-4-2 syllable pattern (thus resembling a butterfly). Yes, I know the poem doesn’t have to be about an actual butterfly, but the theme was too fitting to resist. I hope you enjoyed my poem! Thanks for the challenge, Jane!

What If? Writing Prompts: Nature III

Here’s another set of “What If?” Writing Prompts for you! This week’s post features another batch of prompts in the theme of nature and environmentalism. See what environmental stories you can create around these ideas! Enjoy!

What If - Parchment and QuillWhat if… there were only one type of energy source to power everything in the world?

What if… all humans lived in communion with animals?

What if… environmental conservation were always a political priority?

What if… there were no major urban areas in the world?

What if… all manmade modes of transportation suddenly disappeared?

Have fun writing more stories about nature!

If you have any “What If?” writing prompt suggestions (for any theme), please feel free to share them in the comments below. Ideas I like may be featured in future “What If?” posts, with full credit and a link to your blog (if you have one)! Also, if you’ve written a piece based on an idea you’ve found here, be sure to link back to the respective “What If?” post. I would love to see what you’ve done with the prompt! Thank you!

What If? Writing Prompts: Nature II

So it seems my ultra busy grad school schedule is catching up with me yet again, so for now, I’m afraid I’ll have to pad over my creative writing topics with some “What If?” Writing Prompts at least every other week. My apologies for not being able to bring you more fulfilling content for a while, but I hope you’ll find these posts entertaining nonetheless.

Since I enjoyed writing for the Earth Day post so much, I figured I’d try my hand at coming up with another batch of nature-themed prompts. See what sorts of environmental stories you can create based on these ideas! Enjoy!

What If - Parchment and QuillWhat if… the world ran entirely on renewable energy sources?

What if… a massive space object were to black out the sun?

What if… there were ecosystems completely uninfluenced by human actions?

What if… species could evolve fast enough to keep up with the accelerated environmental changes caused by people?

What if… humans were an endangered species?

Have fun spinning your own environmental tales!
