What If? Writing Prompts: Nature II

So it seems my ultra busy grad school schedule is catching up with me yet again, so for now, I’m afraid I’ll have to pad over my creative writing topics with some “What If?” Writing Prompts at least every other week. My apologies for not being able to bring you more fulfilling content for a while, but I hope you’ll find these posts entertaining nonetheless.

Since I enjoyed writing for the Earth Day post so much, I figured I’d try my hand at coming up with another batch of nature-themed prompts. See what sorts of environmental stories you can create based on these ideas! Enjoy!

What If - Parchment and QuillWhat if… the world ran entirely on renewable energy sources?

What if… a massive space object were to black out the sun?

What if… there were ecosystems completely uninfluenced by human actions?

What if… species could evolve fast enough to keep up with the accelerated environmental changes caused by people?

What if… humans were an endangered species?

Have fun spinning your own environmental tales!

If you have any “What If?” writing prompt suggestions (for any theme), please feel free to share them in the comments below. Ideas I like may be featured in future “What If?” posts, with full credit and a link to your blog (if you have one)! Also, if you’ve written a piece based on an idea you’ve found here, be sure to link back to the respective “What If?” post. I would love to see what you’ve done with the prompt! Thank you!

What If? Writing Prompts: Nature I

It’s Earth Day, and that means it’s the perfect time to appreciate the wonder that is our natural world. And what better way for writers to get into the spirit of the day than with some nature-themed “What If?” Writing Prompts? In celebration of our beautiful Earth, here’s a fresh batch of prompts for you, the first in this segment set to the theme of nature. Enjoy, and Happy Earth Day!

What If - Parchment and QuillWhat if… every single human in the world suddenly disappeared?

What if… there were a superhero among wild animals who fought against the destruction of their habitat?

What if… the trees in deforested areas could talk?

What if… everyone in the world accepted that climate change is a real and ongoing threat to life as we know it?

What if… all of humanity made an effort to protect the environment and preserve the natural wonders of our Earth?

Have fun writing your own stories about nature and the Earth!

Rainbow

Reds, blues and greens
Arched across the sky
Illuminate the heavens in
Numerous brilliant hues.
Beauty in a spectrum
Of seven vivid colors is a
Wonder of nature’s perfection.

Turn of the Seasons

Flowers bloom and grow
Paint the world in bright colors
Love is in the air

Brave the burning sun
Play between the sea and shore
Lights pop in the sky

Leaves changing color
Scents of harvest fill the air
Taste Nature’s bounty

Snowflakes floating down
Pure white blanket drapes the land
A new year begins

Autumn Leaves

The autumn leaves outside my window fall
To dress the earth in hues of red and gold.
Amid the trees, I hear the dawn birds call,
Their songs imbued with tales from days of old.

I walk outside into the chilling air
And smile at leaves that fall like golden rain,
For never does the world look quite so fair
As when the treetops weep and shed their pain.

The summer leaves behind its scarring burns.
The winter threatens darkness yet unknown.
And though the spring renews the seasons’ turns,
The autumn shines with grandeur of its own.

Such colors on the leaves make crystal clear
Why autumn is my favorite time of year.
