Winter Blossom

I saw her on that cold December night,
A touch of color on the virgin snow.
The winter rose had just begun to grow,
And suddenly I knew true love’s first sight.

Her scarlet petals shamed the ivory white
Of snowflakes dancing in the moonlit glow.
She’d sing of summer days she longed to know,
And talk with me until the morning light.

Yet she had bloomed too soon to have it said
That she would live to feel the summer’s bliss
Before the frost could spirit her above.

Come spring, I found my winter rose lay dead.
In trembling hands, I blessed her with a kiss,
And shed a farewell tear for my lost love.

Sonnet to a Great Mentor

A gift with which I’m blessed in every way
Is someone who is always there for me.
A mentor guiding me through every day
To help me be the best that I can be.

You give me hope whenever I am sad,
Encourage me to follow every dream.
You teach me to have faith when times are bad,
For things are not as dire as they may seem.

I’m thankful for your loving warm embrace,
For every time you help me rise above,
For every chance to see your smiling face
And know that I will always have your love.

The greatest wish God ever made come true
Was giving me a mother just like you.

Happy Birthday to my amazing mother! Thank you so much for all your love and support, and for being the best mentor I could ever ask for! I love you!

Autumn Leaves

The autumn leaves outside my window fall
To dress the earth in hues of red and gold.
Amid the trees, I hear the dawn birds call,
Their songs imbued with tales from days of old.

I walk outside into the chilling air
And smile at leaves that fall like golden rain,
For never does the world look quite so fair
As when the treetops weep and shed their pain.

The summer leaves behind its scarring burns.
The winter threatens darkness yet unknown.
And though the spring renews the seasons’ turns,
The autumn shines with grandeur of its own.

Such colors on the leaves make crystal clear
Why autumn is my favorite time of year.
